At ISE 2020, Lumens is introducing the VC-A71P 4K PTZ camera with an unusual feature for a camera manufacturer: SRT.
In a world where data theft, cyber security, information management and protection, and safeguarding are high on every organisation’s agenda, SRT is an invaluable tool.
SRT is a video transport protocol and technology stack that optimizes streaming performance across unpredictable networks with secure streams and easy firewall traversal. It delivers the best quality live video (H.264/H.265) over any network. Hallmarks of SRT are pristine quality with protection against jitter and packet loss (in spite of bandwidth fluctuation), low latency video and end-to-end 128/256 bit AES encryption.
Pair the 8mp sensor and 30x zoom with SRT, and you’ve got superb quality video over IP networks, assisted by SRT. But is the safe encryption part of SRT important?
SDI and HDMI signals run over dedicated baseband networks so are easier to secure. IP networks, on the other hand, are shared with multiple users, have multiple functions and are externally accessible. Securing video data that may contain confidential meeting recordings, financial data or as-yet unreleased news is vital. The A71P is the first camera in the Holdan portfolio to feature SRT so it’s going to be interesting to see the AV sector’s response.
SRT is an open source standard which is supported by the likes of AVermedia, ATEME, Brightcove, BrightSign, Datapath, Exterity, Kaltura, Telestream, Teradek and vMix among scores of other market leaders. It’s certainly worth exploring as a means of securing the quality, integrity and safekeeping of your video.
