Battery level high - working on the Edge

A humble Canon LP-E6 DSLR battery has a 13 watt hour (Wh) capacity, tiny compared with a V-mount unit at 98, 150 or even 198 Wh capacity. These broadcast batteries can keep you going all day, but are far too big and cumbersome for DSLR or mirrorless cameras.

A smaller battery means run time worries, down time and technical problems for a DSLR owner: how many batteries do you charge before a shoot? How much time does that take? How often do you swap DSLR batteries on a shoot? How long does that take? How many small DSLR batteries do you lose throughout the year? How much does that cost you?

Camera manufacturers have tried to address these problems in their optional battery grips but that only gets you to around 30 Wh.

That’s why Core SWX developed the PowerBase Edge battery, to sit beneath a DSLR camera, regardless of make or model. The PowerBase Edge has standard tripod plate mounts on its top and base. This allows camera and battery to be quickly removed from your tripod or monopod. Its 49Wh capacity means it is relatively small and light, but can keep a Pocket Cinema Camera 4K running for around 4 hours continuously.

The PowerBase Edge also offers photographers the features of a v mount battery such as:

  • Power tap and USB ports to power on-camera accessories like monitors, lights and wireless transmitters, as well as the camera
  • A Back lit LCD run time display tells you how many minutes are left based on live demand from the camera and all the accessories it powers.
  • A V-mount plate so you can also attach it to a broadcast camera or pro light.
  • At less than 600g the PowerBase Edge is light enough to go into any setup even drone work

So never fear battery low again, when you’re working on a PowerBase Edge.
