Designed for Internet Broadcasting

The easiest way to stream to your favorite websites or services.
Blackmagic Web Presenter is the fastest and easiest way to get live video directly onto the web for a new generation of web broadcasting. Plus you don’t need to buy expensive and hard to setup streaming encoders. Simply connect video sources such as a professional SDI camera or an HDMI source like a consumer camera or computer into Blackmagic Web Presenter then connect it to your computer’s USB port. That’s all you need to do. Blackmagic Web Presenter will work with any software that supports video from a webcam because it tricks your computer into thinking the SDI or HDMI device is a webcam. Now you can use popular software such as Open Broadcaster or XSplit Broadcaster to live stream your broadcasts and events. Best of all, you don’t need any drivers or extra software.

Professional Quality Streaming

Now you can turn any live production into a global broadcast.
Blackmagic Web Presenter is perfect for anyone that wants to broadcast professional looking, high quality video on the internet. Traditional broadcasters can use Blackmagic Web Presenter to quickly get content out to a global audience from any location through YouTube Live, Facebook Live and more. It can even be used as a backup video link in the field if a satellite channel goes down. Web broadcasters can upgrade the quality of their online webinars or AV professionals can even use it to stream content to seminar attendees over the internet. When used with the optional Teranex Mini Smart Panel, Blackmagic Web Presenter becomes a professional 2 input live production switcher that lets you create professional presentations with camera and slide show switched right from the front panel.

Teranex Quality Conversions

Stream incredibly clean video from any source.
Blackmagic Web Presenter has Teranex conversion technology built in that provides you with incredibly clean looking web video from any source. You can use any SD, HD or Ultra HD source up to 2160p60. Blackmagic Web Presenter takes the incoming HD or Ultra HD input signal and automatically converts it to high quality, low data rate 720p HD, which is sent to your computer via USB for streaming. 720p is the ideal format for streaming because it is HD resolution, has a 16:9 aspect ratio and also generates the lowest data rate, making streaming over the internet extremely easy while retaining incredible quality. If the streaming software detects a slow internet connection, it can send a command to Blackmagic Web Presenter to reduce frame rates to 720p20, 720p15, 720p10 or 720p5.

Compatible Software

Works instantly with all popular streaming software.
Blackmagic Web Presenter lets you stream high quality video through your favorite software and websites such as Skype, YouTube Live, Facebook Live and more. Any webcam compatible software will be able to capture video and audio from your connected devices without the need for additional drivers. With Blackmagic Web Presenter, you can use the popular software you love and get higher quality, perfectly synced audio and video that’s far better than a simple webcam. This is possible because all video software is generally tested on webcams built into computers, however Blackmagic Web Presenter tricks these software tools into thinking its also a simple webcam, but delivers dramatically higher video quality.

Open Broadcaster

Open Broadcaster is free open source software for recording and live streaming video on Mac, Windows and Linux. It receives the video from your connected Blackmagic Web Presenter and streams it out to services such as YouTube, Twitch.tv and others. Open Broadcaster can even save an archival of the program.

XSplit Broadcaster

XSplit Broadcaster is another popular audio and video mixing application for Windows with a simple and intuitive interface that allows anyone to create professional quality live broadcasts and recordings. Simply connect Blackmagic Web Presenter to your computer and use XSplit Broadcaster to start streaming.

YouTube Live

YouTube Live is a revolution in global broadcasting thats easy to setup and use. You can create your own channel on YouTube Live and then use Blackmagic Web Presenter in combination with software such as Open Broadcaster to go live. In addition to live streaming, you can create scheduled events and use YouTube’s community features to get the word out and build your audience.

Facebook Live

Facebook Live makes it easy to share a moment with friends and professional networks. Simply connect your Blackmagic Web Presenter and get online instantly with Facebook Live. There’s no setup because your computer thinks you’re using a regular webcam, but the quality will be so much better because you can use professional broadcast equipment for the video source.

Skype Presentations

Instantly upgrade your Skype video conferencing experience with Blackmagic Web Presenter. Instead of using a low resolution webcam, you can now use professional SDI and high quality HDMI cameras. You’ll see a dramatic improvement in image quality so your video chats and group calls will look better than ever. Imagine using a professional camera and computer based slide show for business presentations.

Twitch.TV

With an audience of over 10 million daily viewers, Twitch is the world’s leading social video platform and community for gamers and the creative arts. Blackmagic Web Presenter lets you connect a camera and game console, then easily stream it in incredible quality so you can broadcast via Twitch and share gameplay with friends and fans around the world.

Periscope

Periscope is Twitter’s live streaming video app that allows you to watch and broadcast live video from all across the globe. You can use Blackmagic Web Presenter as the source input for your Periscope video stream then tweet out the link to your audience and let them start watching.

Optional Live Production Switcher

Professional, broadcast quality 2 input switcher with transitions and more.
The optional Teranex Mini Smart Panel turns your Blackmagic Web Presenter into a professional, broadcast quality 2 input live production switcher. The panel adds push button controls, an LCD screen and spin knob that lets you quickly cut between sources. You can have a presenter on an SDI camera and a slide show on an HDMI computer, then switch between them, complete with smooth professional looking dissolves. You can even preview video and monitor audio levels on the built in LCD screen before going live with your web broadcast.

No Drivers Required

Compatible with Mac, Windows, Linux and Chromebook computers.
Blackmagic Web Presenter is a standard UVC and UAC compatible USB video device so you don’t need any drivers. Just plug it into your Mac, Windows, Linux or even Chromebook computer. The computer will think that it’s just a standard webcam, however your production quality will be far superior because Blackmagic Web Presenter works with your SDI and HDMI devices such as professional cameras, computers, switchers and even game consoles. It’s like getting a broadcast quality webcam and so much more.

Advanced Connections

Connect virtually any SDI or HDMI camera.
Blackmagic Web Presenter includes 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 inputs with support for all SD, HD and Ultra HD formats up to 2160p60. An HDMI loop out lets you insert Web Presenter between your computer and a video projector, and an SDI output is included for master recording the output of the switcher. The SDI program output, which is not down converted to 720p, can be used to record a full resolution master. You also get balanced XLR audio inputs for connecting professional microphones, along with RCA HiFi inputs for connecting iPods and other audio sources so you can add music or computer audio to your program.

Design

Keep it on your desk, stow it in a rack or take it on the go.
Blackmagic Web Presenter is based on the modular Teranex Mini design so it looks good on a desktop, but it can also be rack mounted or easily hidden. Its extremely portable 5.5 inch wide by 1.5 inch height makes Blackmagic Web Presenter perfect for mounting alongside other equipment using the optional Teranex Mini Rack Shelf. You can fit 3 of them side by side in a single rack space, or combine Blackmagic Web Presenter with other products such as Teranex Mini converters, HyperDeck Studio Mini recorders and even an ATEM Television Studio HD switcher. Blackmagic Web Presenter also features a built in power supply so you don’t have to carry around extra power bricks and cables.

Re-Synchronization

Mix and match different video sources with glitch free switching.
Blackmagic Web Presenter features automatic frame resynchronization on the HDMI input so you can work with multiple sources and automatically synchronize them to ensure perfect, glitch free switching. This powerful and advanced feature lets you transition between sources cleanly, as long as they are running at the same frame rates and resolution. With Blackmagic Web Presenter, your transitions will always be smooth and your final output will look amazingly professional.

What is UVC?

UVC stands for ‘USB Video Class’ and Blackmagic Web Presenter is a UVC device. UVC is a universal standard for video devices like webcams and now, Blackmagic Web Presenter. It allows various computer applications to use the video signal received from devices like Blackmagic Web Presenter, without the need for specific drivers to be installed on your computer.

UVC support is included within the latest versions of Windows, macOS and Linux. It is even supported by devices like Chromebooks.

How can I create a full web stream presentation with Blackmagic Design Web Presenter?

There are many exciting computer applications that allow you to broadcast and stream over the internet. As long as your favourite application supports UVC, it will work with Blackmagic Design Web Presenter.

Each software application is different so it is recommended to refer to the specific documentation for that software on how to achieve what it is you would like to do.

My Blackmagic Design Web Presenter will not power on

When the Blackmagic Design Web Presenter is powered on, the power LED on the front will illuminate. If this does not happen, try the following:

  • Verify that your power socket works with another mains powered device like a television or monitor
  • Check that the IEC cable works with another device. In some countries a fuse is built into the power plug. This fuse may have blown
  • Finally check the fuse on the Blackmagic Web Presenter unit

How can I check if my Blackmagic Design Web Presenter is functioning correctly?

The Blackmagic Design Web Presenter is designed to be a plug and play device, so following the simple instructions in the manual should get you up and running with your favourite software in minutes. However, you can use the following simple troubleshooting steps to verify your device is functioning correctly:

  1. If you have the optional Teranex Mini Smart Panel connected to your Blackmagic Web Presenter, you can confirm if the unit is receiving audio and video by viewing the built-in LCD screen.
  2. Skype is ideal for checking if your unit is functioning correctly. Open Skype, go to the ‘preferences’ menu. Then select the Audio/Video tab. Here, you can select Blackmagic Web Presenter as your ‘camera’ device. The video should appear straight away in the preview window. If you cannot select Blackmagic Web Presenter as a video or audio source in Skype, it means your unit is not connected to your computer, not powered on or your computer has failed to detect the unit.

The audio looks out of sync with the video

Blackmagic Web Presenter will stream the audio and video in sync as long as it arrives to the unit in sync. You can check sync by using software like ‘Quicktime Player” on macOS and OBS on Windows. Capture a video file from your incoming sources using either of these two applications and playback the file. You can see if the audio and video are in sync. Doing a “clap” test in front of the camera to simulate a clapperboard and recording this to a file is a great way to check sync.

If your audio and video are going out of sync only when streaming, this may be due to the streaming service provider.

Remember that your camera and other source devices may introduce their own delays into the signal chain. This may be especially true if you are using an audio feed separate from your camera.

Can I use the Blackmagic Design Web Presenter with a USB Extender?

Blackmagic Web Presenter is designed to work with a standard USB 2.0 A to B cable. It may work with extender products, however this is not something that has been thoroughly tested and is therefore not recommended. More complex extenders may interrupt the data stream which is not desirable for real time streaming.

How much USB bandwidth does the Blackmagic Design Web Presenter require?

The amount of data travelling down your USB cable from Blackmagic Web Presenter to your computer is entirely controlled by the application you are using. On a low bandwidth internet connection, your video conferencing application may request Blackmagic Web Presenter to provide fewer frames and thus a lower amount of data. If your internet connection speed increases again, your application may ask Blackmagic Web Presenter for higher frame rates. Because of this, the data rates on your USB cable will vary.

Can I use more than one Blackmagic Design Web Presenter at the same time?

It is not recommended to run more than two Blackmagic Web Presenters from the same USB hub or bus. If you do wish to use two Blackmagic Web Presenters, we recommend each unit is connected to its own USB bus on your computer. We also recommend you test your multiple Blackmagic Web Presenter setup prior to a critical project.

Sometimes my video has interference or the audio is garbled

This can occur when there is not enough bandwidth over your USB cable from the Blackmagic Web Presenter to your computer. In this case, the unit may even stop being detected by your computer.

If this is happening, check the following:

  • Ensure the Blackmagic Web Presenter is connected with a standard USB 2.0 cable no more than 2 metres long. No extenders should be used.
  • Check that the unit is the only device on the USB bus and exclude devices like USB hard drives.
  • If you have the optional Teranex Mini Smart Panel connected to your Blackmagic Web Presenter, check whether the interference appears on the LCD display. If it does, it means that the video stream is already disrupted before going into your Blackmagic Web Presenter. Check your camera and cables to your Blackmagic Web Presenter.

There is a ‘jump’ when I switch between HDMI and SDI inputs

Whilst you can still use Blackmagic Web Presenter to switch between different types of signals, Blackmagic Web Presenter will only switch between video inputs smoothly if the signals are of the same resolution and frame rate. This is the way all high end video switchers that are available today work.

What's new in Blackmagic Web Presenter 3.4

This software update adds a new REST API on Web Presenter HD and Web Presenter 4K models. If you are a software developer, the REST API allows you to integrate Web Presenter into automation systems so you can customize all streaming parameters to get precise control over streaming. This is more powerful than the simpler XML based settings on the regular streaming settings. Plus you can update streaming platform details remotely and even build a custom application to control the web presenter with the features you need.

This update also includes a bug fix to ensure mobile tethering works with the latest Google Pixel phones. Plus this update fixes a bug with H.265 streaming with SRT on YouTube where it won't stream correctly. To fix this the default steaming settings have been changed to H.264 until the bug is fixed. However this codec setting is set in the XML file so it can be overridden if required.
